This extremely popular picada is always packed, so you might have to wait to be seated in the chandelier-lighted dining room or at one of the tables that spill out onto the sidewalk. A large selection of Chilean wine accompanies such favorites as jardín de mariscos (shellfish stew) and the filling cazuela (a stew of beef or chicken and potatoes). There are several branches in the neighborhood, but each has its own personality. Afternoons find locals bellying up to the bar.

We had a very good experience at the Pedro de Valdivia branch of Liguria. Each person in our party of four had a very good meal, and the service was excellent. It did get crowded early, but we were able to sit outside (less desirable seats in the winter!) and the wait staff was prepared to move us indoors if we decided it was too chilly. One of the few places I would go again to eat in Santiago.
