Fodor's Expert Review Casa Colorada

Santiago Centro Historic Home

Editor's Note: This property is currently undergoing renovations.

The appropriately named Red House is one of the best-preserved colonial structures in the city. Mateo de Toro y Zambrano, president of Chile's first independent government established in September 1810, once made his home here. It is the house itself that is most interesting, but it also contains a modest museum about the history of Santiago. Exhibits are labeled in English.
