Museums / Galleries, Houses / Mansions, Santiago Centro
Fodor's Review:
The appropriately named Red House is one of the best-preserved colonial structures in the city. Mateo de Toro y Zambrano, Santiago's most prosperous businessman of the 18th century, once made his home here. The building today houses the Museo de Santiago, a modest but informative museum that makes an excellent place to dive into the city's history. There are several dioramas, some of them life-size, depicting life in the colonial period. For an explanation of the exhibits, ask for an English guidebook.
