Remota Review

For most guests the Remota experience begins with the safari-esque transfer from Punta Arenas Airport, during which the driver stops to point out animals and other items of interest; on arrival, you meet what seems like the entire staff, check into your ultramodern room, have a drink from a top-shelf open bar, and run off to the open-air Jacuzzis and impossibly serene infinity pool. The hotel is the paragon of style, deliberately designed in a way that blocks out everything but the exquisite vistas. The various wings are connected by enclosed walkways; the lawns in between have been strewn with monoliths, reminiscent of a Japanese rock garden. Inside, the lenga walls and ceilings are left natural and deliberately unfinished, and a daybed relaxation area is the best vantage point for floor-to-ceiling views of the fjord and the mountains behind. All meals and your choice of 25 different styles of excursion are included in the price. Every morning a guide proposes a wide range of activities, each demanding various levels of exertion, so you are sure to find something to suit your speed. Equipment is supplied and includes everything from Zodiacs to mountain-climbing gear to bikes, and easels for Patagonian landscape painting. Horseback riding with local gauchos is a hard activity to pass up. The guides are helpful and patient, and demonstrate an infectious love for the outdoors.
