Health and Safety

The main concern you should have in the North is the sun; a hat and sunblock are always a good idea, and be sure to drink plenty of fluids during any outdoor activity. The altitude can also be a problem for some, so take the first day slow and acclimatize.

Use common sense: don't be flashy with cash or expensive cameras. The North is relatively tranquil, but when venturing out from the center of any town into other neighborhoods, it's always safer to take a cab than to walk (ask an employee to call one for you). The main industry in El Norte Grande is mining, which means there is an inflated population of men and that foreign women often attract more than a few wandering gazes.
