Fodor's Review

The most welcoming (for tourists, that is) of the Elqui Valley observatories and the one that thus attracts the most visitors, Mamalluca is 9 km (5½ mi) north of Vicuña. On the Basic Astronomy tour, visitors are given an introductory talk before stargazing on the terrace and then taking turns looking through a 12-inch digital telescope. Also offered is an Andean Cosmology tour, which focuses more on the Andean interpretation of the constellations. Tours start at the

tour office in Vicuña; transport to the observatory is provided.
