Sea kayaking around the outlying islands near Castro has become one of Chiloé's main draws. There are also interesting options for fishing, horseback riding, and hiking in the surrounding countryside, particularly in and around Chiloé National Park.

Probably the best tourism agency in Chiloé is Turismo Pehuen (Blanco 208. 65/635-254. www.turismopehuen.cl). They have a variety of excursions, including horseback riding and hiking.

Altue Sea Kayaking (Encomenderos 83, Santiago. 2/232-1103. www.seakayakchile.com) specializes in sea-kayaking trips, which range in length from two to nine days.
