Argentina Info
Aerolíneas Argentinas flies four to six times daily between Aeroparque Jorge Newbery in Buenos Aires and the Aeropuerto Internacional de Puerto Iguazú (20 km/12 mi southeast of Puerto Iguazú); the trip takes 1¾ hours. LAN does the same trip three to four times daily. Normal rates are about 350-400 pesos each way. Four Tourist Travel runs shuttle buses from the airport to hotels in Puerto Iguazú. Services leave after every flight lands and cost 12 pesos. Taxis to Puerto Iguazú cost 40 pesos.
Vía Bariloche operates several daily bus services between Retiro bus station in Buenos Aires and the Puerto Iguazú Terminal de Omnibus in the center of town. The trip takes 16-18 hours, so it's worth paying the little extra for coche cama (sleeper) or cama ejecutivo (deluxe sleeper) services, which cost 200-240 pesos one-way (regular semi-cama services cost around 180 pesos). You can travel direct to Rio de Janeiro (22 hours) and São Paolo (15 hours) with Crucero del Norte; the trips cost 250 and 200 pesos, respectively.
From Puerto Iguazú to the falls or the hotels along RN 12, take El Práctico from the terminal or along Avenida Victoria Aguirre. Buses leave every 15 minutes 7-7 and cost 8 pesos round-trip.
There's little point in renting a car around Puerto Iguazú: daily rentals start at 150-200 pesos, more than twice what you pay for a taxi between the town and the falls. A rental car is useful for visiting the Jesuit ruins at San Ignacio, 256 km south of Puerto Iguazú on RN 12, a two-lane highway in excellent condition.
