Praça da República

Praça da República Review

Republic Square was originally known as the Field of Honor, a nod to those who were drawn and quartered here during the Republican movement of 1817. The structures around the square showcase the city's architecture from the 19th through the 20th centuries. Highlights include the Teatro Santa Isabel (St. Isabel Theater, 1850); the Palácio do Campo das Princesas, also known as the Palácio do Governo (Government House, 1841); and the Palácio da Justiça (Court House, 1930).
