The Saint of Ceará

Cícero Romão Batista was born in the state of Ceará in 1844. At the age of 28, the priest took over the church in the town of Juazeiro do Norte. The miraculous deeds of the man known as Padre Cícero began when a communion wafer he administered turned into blood in the mouth of a parishioner. Later Padre Cícero went to Rome and met with the Pope. Although never declared a saint, he is still worshipped in the Northeast.
