The best restaurant in Serra Negra and located by Joao Zelante square, Café Boteco incorporates some elements of the traditional Brazilian boteco (dive bar) in some of its recipes and decor, but the comparisons end here: bow-tied, friendly waiters serve excellent dishes, such as the costelinha com polenta (pork ribs with polenta chips) and the escondidinho (a type of cottage pie, with beef or chicken covered in creamy mash). Draught lager and a range
of local beers are available. If you sit outside, bands often play live at the square on weekends.
