Exploring São Paulo on foot

The imposing and almost dead-straight Avenida Paulista is a great place to explore on foot. Running from Paraíso (paradise) to Consolação (consolation), two bookending metro stations, the avenue also serves as paulistanos' tongue-in-cheek comparison to marriage, but many couples of all ages will be found strolling here hand-in-hand. The Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP) has one of Brazil's best collections of fine art. Right across the street is Parque Trianon, where locals hang out and eat lunch. Leaving the park, veer right and head for the Centro Cultural FIESP. Here you may be able to catch one of its art shows or performances. A few blocks away is the Instituto Itaú Cultural, a great place to see contemporary Brazilian art. Finally, rest your weary feet in Casa das Rosas, a beautiful Versailles-inspired garden.
