An hour's drive north from Salvador along the Atlantic coast brings you to the Costa do Sauípe resort complex. Its five hotels, convention center, re-created local village with six pousadas, and sports center are all part of a 500-acre development in an environmental protection area bordered by rain forest.
If you prefer small lodgings to grand resorts, opt for a stay in one of the six pousadas in Vila Nova da Praia, a re-creation of a typical northeastern village,
with cobblestone lanes lined with restaurants and bars. Vila Nova da Praia is also a great place to find souvenirs, especially ceramics.
