Salvador and the Bahia Coast Sights

Palácio Rio Branco

Palácio Rio Branco Review

The building dates to 1549, when it was the headquarters of the colonial government of Brazil. The current construction, completed in 1919, is the result of several renovations and expansions and has resulted in an eclectic style that leans toward neoclassical. Today it houses Salvador's Chamber of Commerce, the Cultural Foundation of the State of Bahia, and the state tourist office. On the first floor there's a small memorial to the state's governors, depicting the last two centuries of local history. Get a great view of Cidade Baixa and the bay from the east balcony.
