This former apartment building scores points for keeping its prices moderate despite a beachfront location. The decor honors Brazil's past: the lobby has baroque statues and prints depicting colonial scenes, and the rooms are furnished in dark, heavy wood. The hotel has a loyal following among diplomats and businesspeople that are more interested in functionality and low prices than elegance. The buffet breakfast with a view of the beach is one of the hotel's best assets. Corner rooms tend to be the largest.
