In the heart of Ipanema, close to high-class shops and gourmet restaurants, this beachfront hotel has established itself among business travelers, celebrities, and heads of state, who appreciate its impeccable service. The hotel has a business center including secretarial services and fax machines. Disappointingly, rooms lack balconies, and although the rooftop pool has excellent views, it's very small. Italian restaurant, Galani, which serves good executive lunches as well as feijoada every Saturday. The black-theme lobby is comfortable, and cool, but corridors and rooms have plain furnishings. The suites are impressive, but other rooms feel more functional than luxurious.

Good view, poor service

We stayed at this hotel during a tour. The location is good and although our room was on the side of the hotel, we still had a nice view of the beach. The hotel has its own area on the beach with chairs, towels, etc. We had dinner in the hotel's restaurant on the top floor one night and the food and service were top notch. The breakfast buffet was good. Our room was reasonably-sized and well-furnished. Unfortunately, one of the duvets on the

bed had a large obvious blood stain. The maid should have known better than to use it. Also, when the room was serviced the first morning, the wash cloths were not replaced. I called housekeeping and was told some would be sent up. They were not. I went down to the front desk and asked for wash cloths and was assured we would get some. We did not. At 10:00 PM I took the service elevator down to Housekeeping and shocked some woman there who did personally bring some wash cloths up about 15 minutes later. Other members of our tour encountered problems with their toilets that were not resolved promptly. So would we consider staying there again. Maybe, because of the location. But we would definitely consider alternatives.
