Igreja de São Francisco da Penitência

Igreja de São Francisco da Penitência Review

The church was completed in 1737, nearly four decades after it was started. Today it's famed for its wooden sculptures and rich gold-leaf interior. The nave contains a painting of St. Francis, the patron of the church—reportedly the first painting in Brazil done in perspective. Part of the Convento do Santo Antônio, this church is partially roped off due to renovations, though its beauty still shines through.
