Vegan restaurants are a growing trend in body-conscious Rio, but few are as established and well loved as the Vegetarian Social Club. The serve-yourself lunch buffet (R$28) includes tasty and wholesome soups, whole-grain rice, colorful salads, and many soy-based dishes. Dining in the evening is à la carte, with options such as quinoa with seasonal vegetables and tofu cream. The tempeh burgers with soya mayonnaise are a post-beach treat. Detoxifying juices and smoothies
are on the drinks menu, along with organic wines and cachaças for those less in need of a cleansing. The Sunday feijoada, made with smoked tofu instead of pork, attracts vegetarians from across the city.
