Just 3 km (2 miles) from São Thomé are a number of caverns, including Carimbado, which is essentially a long and narrow corridor that displays hieroglyphs. There is also the Índio cave, on the road toward Sobradinho, near the Cruzeiro do Cantagalo. Near the caves are the Véu da Noiva and Véu da Eubiose, two powerful waterfalls.
