Getting Around

It's feasible to visit all the highlights of the state on a two-week vacation. If you have a week you could spend three days in Ouro Preto, two in Tiradentes, and two in Belo Horizonte. For a smaller three-day trip Ouro Preto comes highly recommended as one of the most beautiful and culturally rich places in Brazil. The buses in Minas are comfortable and inexpensive, and travel regularly between Belo Horizonte, Diamantina, Ouro Preto, Tiradentes, and other historic towns. The only reason to rent a car is to take in some of the national and state parks that are not easily accessed by bus. The city buses in Belo Horizonte are safe and easy to use.
