La Posada del Inca Review
Your stay at this lovely posada begins with a 30-minute mule ride (a llama carries your luggage) from the boat dock to the garden-lobby where fruit trees shade handmade reed couches. Rooms in this beautifully restored colonial-style hacienda on the south end of Isla del Sol are attractively furnished with reclaimed wood, and all have private baths. Hot-water showers, wall heaters and electric blankets are all powered with solar energy. The hillside location offers sweeping views of the lake. Before dinner, guests gather around the fire in the cozy bar where three flavors of oxygen are available for those acclimating to the altitude. The restaurant serves meals family-style in the dining room; most of the ingredients come from the on-site greenhouse. Rooms must be booked as part of a hydrofoil tour with Crillón Tours in La Paz, making this one of the more expensive options on the island.
