Fodor's Review

Surrounded by mountains and vineyards, this hotel makes a positive first impression. Inside a gracious colonial villa, the reception hall is washed in sunlight from high windows, and the common areas are decorated in a luxurious bohemian style. The accommodations nestled nearby are equally enticing. Each private adobe guesthouse has its own patio and plunge pool, plus a rooftop deck with a fireplace; huge bedrooms are painted a soothing cream that contrasts with the bold colors of the throws and pillows, while bathrooms have natural stone walls and olive-oil based products. An onsite spa offers aromatherapy and vinotherapy treatments. The concierge will arrange visits to nearby bodegas, make reservations at restaurants, and organize horseback-riding, rafting, or biking excursions.

Cavas Wine Lodge … what a truly magical place! We will definitely be back. Food – So good! We hadn’t planned to eat lunch and dinner at Cavas each day, but it was so convenient and very tasty. Once we arrived, it was so breath-takingly beautiful that we didn’t want to leave. We even had the chance to speak with the owners Martín and Cecilia a few times. Hot tub – once of my most memorable moments was a private hot-tub experience at

the spa complete with champagne and candles. A perfect way to celebrate our 13 year wedding anniversary! Cellar Wine tasting – take advantage of the wine cellar tasting which is included in the evenings around 7pm. It was so fun and educational and the cellar is quite spectacular. It was a fun way to meet some of the other guests. Private patio / fire: We loved sitting on top of our private patio with expansive 360 degree views of the vines. You must set your alarm and see the sunrise at least once. At night after dinner, if you call the reception desk, they send a professional to light a fire on either your outdoor upper patio or inside your room. Two nights in a row we had the in-room fire. So romantic and special. We were there during the Fall going into Winter (end of May) so it was the most perfect temperature. You do have a private outdoor swimming pool on your lower patio but it’s not heated. Scheduled wine tours – we had the concierge desk pre-plan full days of wine tastings in Mendoza, but we cancelled most everything once we arrived! It was so peaceful and gorgeous that we didn’t want to leave. Bike ride through vineyard – Do this! We took some beautiful pictures and really loved our bike ride through the vineyards. There are even a few wineries close enough to take the bikes. Word of caution: I forgot to put my Cavas corkscrew/wine opener in my checked luggage and the airport took it from me. Sad. I was more upset to loose the memory than anything. I didn’t realize this would be considered a weapon :( -Justin & Melody
