Country casual meets luxury at the Algodón Wine Resort, a sister to the gorgeous Algodón Mansion in Buenos Aires. Choose between eight rooms: three in the remodeled 1920s farmhouse and five in the more modern lodge, each with its own patio and either a fireplace or a woodstove. Guests can gather for a drink or enjoy a good read in the living room or on any of the shady porches accessible from each room. Throw a blanket down in the ancient olive grove at siesta time. Golf and tennis are both available, plus there’s a vineyard with a bodega for wine tastings. The friendly staff will help plan trips to other vineyards, as well as rafting, cycling, and more ambitious Andean excursions. After working up an appetite, dine on-site at Chez Gaston. It serves high-quality (but never pretentious) regional dishes; many of the ingredients used—including olives, fruits, and walnuts—are harvested right on the property, and bread is baked daily in a clay oven.
