Estancia Colomé

Estancia Colomé Review

Remote wineries are one thing; Colomé, set up by Swiss winemaker Donald Hess and his wife, is quite something else. Arriving puts the miles of driving along bumpy, unpaved roads firmly into perspective: Colomé, a world-class winery that dates from 1831, offers tastings, a delectable restaurant with a vineyard view, horse-riding expeditions, and an art gallery out in the relative wilderness 20 km (13 mi) from Molinos. Formerly operating as a luxury hotel with all the perks imaginable, the estancia is now open only for group bookings. Since 2009 Colomé has also been home to the James Turrell Museum, showcasing five decades of the artist's works with light and space, and including a fun tunnel of color. It's open between 2 pm and 6 pm daily, although you're advised to make a reservation in advance.
