Chilecito, the province's second city (actually more of a small town), is not much closer to Talampaya than the capital, but it is the main nexus of the wine-making Famatina Valley and on the scenic route—the Cuesta de Miranda, a disorienting and uphill sequence of more than 200 turns—to Villa Union. The town has the rusting remains of the world's longest cable car, built to transport minerals from far-off mines.
