Getting Oriented

The Lake District lies in the folds of the Andes along the Chilean border in the provinces of Neuquén, Río Negro, and Chubut, where a myriad of glacial lakes lap at the forest's edge beneath snowcapped peaks.

The area includes four national parks, with towns in each. Bariloche is the base for exploring Parque Nacional Nahuel Huapi, and the departure point for the lake crossing to Chile. North of Bariloche is Parque Nacional Lanín with the towns of San Martín de los Andes and Junín de los Andes. South of Bariloche and El Bolsón on RN40 is Parque Nacional Lago Puelo in the Pacific watershed.
