"Far from everywhere," begins the tourism slogan of Puerto Santa Cruz, an example of candor rarely encountered in Argentina's tourist offices. This peaceful little port is indeed a long way from anywhere. As one of the original permanent European settlements in Patagonia, the town is rich in history, and with the creation of the nearby Monte Leon National Park, tourists are slowly filtering in. There is one excellent hotel in town, but a distinct lack of decent restaurants. Don't miss a walk along the shingle beach, where you'll pass fishermen and shipwrecks and perhaps spot dolphins frolicking in the bay.
