Cerro Torre and Cerro Fitzroy Review

You don't need a guide to do the classic treks to Cerro Torre and Cerro Fitzroy, each about 6 to 8 hours round-trip out of El Chaltén. If your legs feel up to it the day you do the Fitzroy walk, tack on an hour of steep switchbacks to Mirador Tres Lagos, the lookout with the best views of Mt. Fitzroy and its glacial lakes. Both routes, plus the Mirador and various side trails, can be combined in a two or three day trip.

    Cerro Torre and Cerro Fitzroy Review

    If backpacking be prepared for severe weather. We thought we were well prepared with rain gear, but got so cold and wet on the second day we were getting hypothermic and hiked 10 miles to get back to town. Next day was gorgeous, so we dayhiked to the destination we intended to camp at the night before. Great thing about this place is that if you aren't into camping, you can just day hike to some great spots.
