The lighting is too bright, the decor mixes utilitarian blandness with hokey equine touches, and the waiters are gruff. But this parrilla restaurant has stayed popular with the locals for a reason. The bold, canary-yellow building on El Calafate's main street happens to be the center of the local social scene, but everyone comes here for the meat.

We had read good reviews of Rick's. We went for the buffet and the waiter just kept bringing us plates full of meat. They were not the kinds we wanted, so lots of waste from our table. The salad bar was worse than a bad cafeteria in an institution. We were sorry we wasted an evening there with so many other excellent restaurants in town!

We had read good things of Rick's which were confirmed by the owner of Patagonia Rebelde where we stayed (also highly recommended). Rick's is not classy but is very clean, pleasant and friendly. We like red meat and red wine and were not disappointed. We had the buffet libre which gives free run at an extensive cold buffet plus an unlimited supply of meat (served to you) from the grill. First helpings are good, second helpings bigger and third
helpings life-threatening. Good range of wines at sensible prices.
