Plaza San Martín
Plaza San Martín Review
The square has always been the heart of Córdoba; it's crossed by diagonal walkways, which from dawn to dusk are filled with busy-looking office workers and residents out for a more casual stroll. Of the many native trees shading it, the most spectacular are the bulging, thorn-covered palo borracho (literally, "drunken stick") and the jacarandas, which blaze with violet blossoms in spring. In the middle of the square an exuberant equestrian statue of General San Martín faces west, toward Pasaje Santa Catalina between the cathedral and the old city hall.
