Fodor's Expert Review Boquitas Pintadas

Estados Unidos 1393, Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires, 1101, Argentina

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

The whimsically named "Little Painted Mouths" (a tribute to Manuel Puig's novel of the same name) is a self-proclaimed "pop hotel," and the German owner, Heike Thelen, goes out of her way to keep things weird and wild. World-famous "nude" photographer Spencer Tunick staged a shoot here and ended up spending the night, and other celebs have passed through over the years. Local artists, inspired by an array of provocative themes, redecorate and rename the five rooms every few months with names like "The Betrayal of Rita Hayworth." The restaurant serves dishes not often found in the city, including goulash. The hotel also hosts ever-changing art exhibitions and theme parties for an eclectic crowd. It is in the Constitución neighborhood, west of San Telmo, across Avenida 9 de Julio.
