Atlantic Patagonia has the best seafood in Argentina. Try lenguado, or sole, and salmon, as well as seafood paella. Restaurantes are generally sit-down-and-take-your-time affairs that don't open for dinner until 8. Most serve excellent meat cooked on the parilla as well as rich pasta dishes, and postres, or desserts, above all flan cassera, or homemade custard. Be on the lookout for cordero, roasted lamb, a Patagonian classic. Most bars serve quick bites—hamburgers, sandwiches, etc.—known as minutas. The region is also famous for its berries and its various jams.
Although quality and even luxurious hotels exist in Puerto Madryn and Trelew, quaint bed-and-breakfasts and other personalized hosterías offer the best deals and often the region's best lodging.
