The entire region is in the rain-shadow of the Andean Cordillera, making for a cool, dry climate with temperatures averaging 66°F in January and 45°F in July. It's very windy; bring extra warm clothes regardless of the season.

Newborn sea-lion pups emerge in January. Penguin chicks take a crash course in swimming mid-February. The most popular time is June through December, when southern right whales are mating and raising offspring at Península Valdés. But August to September is when there are whales, low-season prices and there are fewer people.
