Inspired by Laura Esquivel's romantic 1989 novel Like Water for Chocolate, this Bellavista standout is part restaurant, part theme park. It focuses on the aphrodisiacal qualities of food, so it shouldn't be surprising that one long table is actually an iron bed, with place settings arranged on a crisp white sheet. The food compares to the decor like the film version compares to the book: it's good, but not nearly as imaginative. Ave de la pasión, for instance, means Bird of Passion. It may be just chicken with mushrooms, but it's served on a copper plate.

Great food, atmosphere, near hallucinogenic margaritas. We eat here every year on our way to the Andes.
