Albamar

$$-$$$, Seafood, Centro

User Rating: **** 4.2

Fodor's Review:

Opened in 1933, Albamar faces Guanabara Bay. The restaurant is owned by the waitstaff, assuring efficient service. The circular green building serves fine seafood and fish. The chef's-style à moda dishes are good choices. The menu lists a fish fillet with white-wine sauce, sour cream, shrimp, and mussels, served with mashed potatoes; Spanish-style octopus with potatoes; and six codfish balls. Albamar closes at 6 PM.

Charming place on the water

Posted by StuartMontgomery from London, England on 5/16/08

A charming old building right on the waters edge overlooking (looks like it is closed when you first approach) a combination of the local domestic airport (watch flights landing and taking off) boats coming and going and a wonderful view of Rio. This is a clean charming old place where not much english is spoken although they do have an English menu. We went in the middle of the day and had a great time, we then walked to Confeitaria Colombo (with some directions from the waiting staff). Safe during the day as very busy from the offices in the central.
