Just beyond the Lake Yellowstone Hotel lies one of the park's hidden treasures: Lake Lodge, built in 1920. The 140-foot lobby and porch offer one of the best views of sunrise in the park. The lodge itself no longer offers rooms. Rather, check in at the lobby (make a note to return to enjoy the two fireplaces, a visiting speaker, or a meal), and then head for your cabin, which is just north of the lodge. The accommodations are basic Yellowstone no-frills style -- clean, with one to three beds, and a sink (some also have a shower/tub). There are views of the lake from the lodge but not from the rooms. Pros: The best front porch at a Yellowstone lodge and a great lobby, affordability, good for families. Cons: Absolutely no frills of any kind.
