Fodor's Review

Traveling from west to east, you climb slowly as you straddle Yellowstone Caldera—a 30-mi-by-45-mi crater formed by a volcanic eruption. Pull over to see the Gibbon River as it tumbles into the caldera at 84-foot Gibbon Falls. You also pass several roadside geothermal features (stop at Monument Geyser and Artists Paintpots) before you arrive at Norris Geyser Basin.
