An imposing river-rock fireplace in the cathedral lounge lends warmth to this timber inn near the center of Jackson. You can walk the four blocks to shops, galleries, and restaurants on Town Square. Handcrafted wooden furnishings fill the rooms, some of which have fireplaces and oversize whirlpool tubs. With body wraps, massages, and facials, the spa is a nice extra. Have dinner at the Wild Sage Restaurant ($$$$), which serves duck, pork, halibut, and Montana Legend Beef. Children under 12 are strongly discouraged. Pros: In town yet off the beaten path; fine dining in the charming restaurant; good off-season deals. Cons: Not family-friendly; limited views.
