Cody

Cody, founded in 1896 and named for Pony Express rider, army scout, Freemason, and entertainer William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody, is the eastern gateway community for Yellowstone National Park. But this town of 9,100 is much more than a base for exploring the surrounding area. Five excellent museums under one roof make up the outstanding Buffalo Bill Historical Center, and the Western lifestyle is alive and well on dude ranches and in both trendy and classic shops. Part of the fun in Cody is sauntering down Sheridan Avenue, stopping by the Irma Hotel (built by Buffalo Bill and named for his daughter) for some refreshment, and attending the nightly rodeo.
