Karl Ratzsch's Old World Restaurant Review

In German tradition, dirndl-skirted waitresses serve schnitzel, roast duckling, and sauerbraten at this family-owned restaurant decked out with murals, chandeliers made from antlers, and antique beer steins. Piano music on Friday and Saturday nights adds to the fun. First-time visitors to Milwaukee shouldn't miss this place.

    Very Disappointing

The service was less than stellar. The waitress was rather abrupt, and besides that, did not inform me that my refill of iced tea was not complimentary ($2.50 each). The food was also less than stellar. I ordered the Crackling Pork Shank ($26.95). When I ordered this in Germany, the meat was extremely tender and moist and the skin was crunchy due to all the fat being render out. What I got at Kark Ratzsch's was tough, the skin was soft and fatty, and it had an "old" aroma. They did have a rather distinguished gentleman playing piano that made the atmosphere pleasant. I don't mind spending whatever money on good food or a good restaurant experience, but this was not it, and I would not go back to this restaurant.
