When to Go to West Virginia

When to Go to West Virginia

Peak Season: May to September

Temperatures begin to rise in May, and usually average in the 70s through September. Towns along the Ohio River tend to be extremely humid in summer; the rest of the state sees pleasantly milder conditions.

Off Season: November to March

Winters are mild in low-lying areas such as the eastern Panhandle and the Mid-Ohio and Metro valleys. In the central and mountainous regions, winters are colder and often harsh, with significant snowfall and below-freezing temperatures.

Shoulder Season: April; October

The shoulder season is relatively mild, and can be a good time to visit if you want to see historic sites but still beat the crowds, but note that some attractions start to close or limit their hours at this time. Certain hotels drop their rates a bit in November and keep them low through April.
