Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad

Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad Review

In Elbe, 11 mi west of Ashford, Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad has a historic train depot. However, due to 2006 storms that damaged the Nisqually River bridge tracks, the train's departure point was moved in 2007 to the town of Mineral, about a 15-minute drive south. A return to the Elbe route is planned eventually, but a date had not been set at the time of this writing. The steam train takes riders on a 12-mi trip from Mineral Lake through the foothills of Mt. Rainier. A longer 18-mi route goes over trestles to the logging town of Morton and back. The three-hour Snowball Express runs December weekends and includes an on-board Santa.
