The 10 officers' houses and duplexes of Officers' Row line former parade grounds and were built between 1867 and 1906. Ulysses S. Grant lived in the 1849 log building now bearing his name when he was quartermaster of Vancouver Barracks from 1852 to 1853. Today the Grant House is home to the Restaurant at the Historic Reserve. The Marshall House, named for George C. Marshall, who served as commanding officer at Vancouver Barracks from 1936 to 1938, is open to the public. All the homes along the main boulevard have been restored and are part of the Ft. Vancouver National Historic Reserve. Picnic areas line the parade grounds.
