Greenwood Space Travel Supply Co.
Greenwood Space Travel Supply Co. Review
The name of this shop baffled Greenwood residents for months until it was revealed that it was part of 826 Seattle, the amazing national creative-writing program for kids that was founded by novelist Dave Eggers and educator Nínive Calegari in 2002. The small store has kooky items purported to be space-travel essentials (freeze-dried meals), many of which are obvious nods to kitschy science-fiction movies (check out the ray guns). It also carries 826 clothing, and all of the proceeds go to the writing center. While you're here, check the bulletin board for notices about upcoming events and single-session workshops. Note that this is not a full-blown toy store: go in with a sense of humor and an imagination because much of the cleverness is literary—standard toys and items given ridiculous new names to sound like important instruments of space travel. Everyone will enjoy filling out the hilarious space-traveler screening questionnaires and spaceship accident reports.
