Why We Like It

For travelers that value dependability, the Grand Hyatt is a winning choice, from the excellent customer service to the clean and comfortable rooms. When it comes to location, the hotel has serious bragging rights; it's mere steps from the Washington State Convention Center, close to the downtown shopping district, and a short walk to several attractions and one of Seattle's main transit hubs.

Room

Spotless guestrooms feature masculine-chic decor that is comfortably unobtrusive. Some rooms above the 10th floor enjoy beautiful vistas of Elliott Bay. Suites are large, with separate sitting rooms, and executive quarters have mini-refrigerators and wet bars.

Tip It doesn't hurt to ask for an upgrade to a higher floor at check-in, especially if you're a World of Hyatt loyalty club member.

Bathroom

The Grand Hyatt Seattle really steps up its hotel-chain game in the bathrooms. Think white marble, ample counter space, deep soaking tubs that fill in a flash, and walk-in showers with plenty of water pressure. One complaint: The less-than-luxe toiletries could use an upgrade.

Lobby

With a mix of warm woods and a number of comfortable seating areas, the large lobby is a pleasant place to read the morning paper or conduct a casual business meeting.

Pool

For a $15 fee, guests can access the spa facilities at the Elaia Spa located at the Hyatt at Olive 8 for $15 per day. Elaia Spa at the Hyatt at Olive 8 features a men’s and women’s locker room, complete with a steam room, dry sauna, 65-foot Saline lap pool and co-ed Jacuzzi.

Spa

Across the street at the Hyatt at Olive 8, the luxurious Elaia Spa features a large and comfortable relaxation room with organic teas and nibbles and city views, luxurious treatments including facials, massages, body scrubs, and mani/pedi options. The spic-and-span spa facilities feature steam rooms and dry saunas, as well as access to the lap pool and Jacuzzi.

Gym

A small 24/7 fitness center features the usual hotel-gym mix of cardio machines, a handful of strength-training machines, free weights and mats.

Dining

The Grand Hyatt doesn't have its own restaurant, but just off the lobby, you'll find Blue C Sushi, a mostly local chain featuring hip decor and several styles of sushi on a delivery-belt system, as well as an outpost of Ruth's Chris Steak House, the New Orleans-based chain well-known to any dedicated carnivore. At the Hyatt at Olive 8, Urban serves fresh Pacific Northwest-inspired fare.

Drinking

Forget about happy hour. Blue C Sushi has a "crazy hour" Mon-Thu from 3-6 p.m., featuring $3.50 belt items and lots of drink specials.

Getting Around

The Grand Hyatt is an easy 3-min walk from Westlake Station, a primary hub for the city's Link light rail system, which services Capitol Hill, the University of Washington, and Sea-Fac airport. The Carlisle Room (2-minute walk) has an upscale vintage vibe and a menu with dishes like pork butt and rotisserie chicken alongside an impressive selection of vegetarian/vegan options. For unadventurous diners, there are a number of popular chain options near the hotel, but exploring is worth it in foodie-friendly Seattle.

Bars

If the booze scene is your thing, skip downtown, drive (10-minute) or hop on the light rail (15-minute ride), and head to Capitol Hill, where you’ll find options ranging from cool cocktail lounges (Foreign National, Rumba) to boisterous beer bars (Pine Box, Summit Public House).
