For both an off-the-beaten-path experience and a healthy dose of the West Coast approach to life, take a detour to this adorable purple house. You won't get more of a "like dining in a friend's living room" feeling anywhere else—no rooms were gutted in the house's remodel, so you actually are dining in the living room. and the den. and the guest room. As for the food, Wild Mountain may never be one of the city's top restaurants, but it serves consistently good and simple American fare made with fresh, organic ingredients, including comfort-food favorites like mac and cheese and a version of chicken Parmesan with panko as breading. Breakfast includes a variety of scrambles, tahini-stuffed French toast, and, of course, granola. This may be the most sustainable restaurant in Seattle—almost all materials used to create the restaurant (including the kitchen wares) are salvaged, secondhand, or reclaimed and kitchen scraps go into a compost bin that in turn feeds the restaurant's garden.
