Salisbury House

Fodor's Review:

Built in 1904, this Craftsman house sits on a wide, tree-lined street. The spacious rooms contain an eclectic collection of furniture, including some antiques. The decor isn't as eye-popping as at some of its competitors, but travelers who prefer a simpler, more-contemporary look will appreciate the B&B's restraint. The basement suite has a private entrance and phone line, a fireplace, and a whirlpool bath. The Blue Room is the best of the rest: it has a private deck overlooking the garden. The Rose Room is the most traditional looking, with a canopy bed, antique armoire, and floral bed linens. One of the common areas is a sunporch with wicker furniture. The location is not as central as the other B&Bs—it's closer to Volunteer Park than to shops and restaurants—but this can be seen as a plus not a minus. After all, the farther away from the bustle of Broadway and Pike-Pine, the leafier and quieter the neighborhood. Note that the owner has two cats.
