Ceiling-to-floor draperies lend the dining room understated dignity, and intoxicating aromas waft from the kitchen. Seattleites still love this Pioneer Square institution and flock here for special-occasion lunches, especially. The chef blends Tuscan-style and regional southern Italian cooking to create soul-satisfying dishes such as veal osso buco, homemade ravioli, linguine alle vongole, and roast duck with wild cherry sauce. Reservations are recommended.

Everything is flavorful and nicely presented. Especially good are dishes that combine the best of Italian and Northwest cuisine (homemade pasta topped with smoked salmon). Only regret is no view.
