Fodor's Review:

13 Coins is a wonderful oddity. One of the few restaurants open 24 hours a day, the place nearly defies description. To say it seems stuck in time, circa 1967, would be true, but it's really stuck in another universe altogether. Maybe it's those ridiculously out-of-proportion, high-back booths, but the place reminds us of Alice's mad tea party presided over by waiters who stumbled into a wormhole somewhere in Brooklyn, New York. Service is downright entertaining—half the fun of coming here, especially late at night, is listening to the waiters and cooks banter as dishes are whisked around. The food is upscale diner fare, consistently good but a bit overpriced. Though the menu does include some standbys like a good cheesesteak and huge frittatas—don't expect hamburgers, fries, and mozzarella sticks here. Menu benchmarks include liver and onions, jumbo shrimp on ice, and platters of steak and pasta big enough to stuff a logger. Seafood dishes aren't quite up to Seattle's high standards, but the steamed clams and the baked king salmon fillet are decent.

This is not a restaurant where you get well cooked food. This is a place where you get food that is NOT cooked.

The meat was so fatty it was floating on top of the sauce. The waiter had the worse attitude. The vegetables were RAW.

Then the owner or some manager tells me "I'm sorry, that meat was abnormally fatty. we'll take that off your bill" which was insulting to think he'd actually charge me for a mistake their restaurant made.

The woman next me to complained also and sent back her order. The chef didn't know how to slice the tomatoes. THE TOMATOES.

I order a second time, manicotti, which is so salty I went straight home and started throwing up.

I don't know why people even bother to go there at all. I hope word of mouth will get people to realize that the restaurant is not longer the same.

The only thing they didn't mess up was the bread. WHICH THEY DON'T COOK. so yes, going to 13 Coins is like going to an expensive grocery store.

This is by far one of the worst restaurants I've eaten at since college 40 years ago. The scene at Seatac is from the 50's, more suited for all nighters in Las Vegas. Other than an Italian restaurant in Little Italy in Manhattan, this is the only restaurant where I could only eat two (2!) bites of my entree and stopped eating. And my wife would tell you that is almost impossible for me. Any place open 24 hours a day tells you something and that is probably not good. There are plenty of good restaurants in Seattle-Canlis, Campagne, Ray's Boathouse, Wild Ginger-but this is not one of them.
