EZ Times Outfitters (18703 Hwy. 706, Elbe. 360/569-2449). EZ Times has one- to three-hour guided horseback-riding trips on 20,000 acres of state forest trails near Mt. Rainier. Rates are $25 an hour. For a less strenuous outing, you can take a carriage ride, which will run you $50 an hour for two people and $10 per hour for each additional rider.

Happy Trails Horse Adventures (Box 32, Easton. 509/656-2634. www.happytrailsateastonwa.com). About and hour and a half east of Seattle, Happy Trails offers guided rides through forested hills and meadows filled with wildflowers that are part of the Cascade mountain range. Trips range from leisurely three-hour rides ($75 per person) to overnight trips ($100 per person) to two-day excursions ($165 per person; includes meals). The ranch also does pony rides year-round as well as seasonal hayrides and sleigh rides.

Tiger Mountain Outfitters (24508 SE 133rd St., Issaquah. 425/392-5090). This Eastside outfitter leads three-hour, 10-mi rides to a lookout point on Tiger Mountain. The cost is $60 per person, and rides set out at 10 AM and 3 PM in summer and 1 PM in winter.
