The Flying Heritage Collection

Fodor's Review:

Housed within a simple local airport hangar, this spectacular gathering of unique vintage aircraft belongs to local tycoon Paul Allen, who began collecting and restoring rare planes in 1988. The selections run the full length of 20th-century military history, including pieces from World War I, World War II, and other international battles. A favorite plane is the P-51D Mustang from the Second World War, whose pilot is on hand to talk about all his adventures. Guided tours, run by appointment only on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 to noon and 2 to 4, are led by experienced fliers, many of whom fought in battle. On the monthly Flying Day, pilots take vintage planes from 12:30 to 1:30.

  • Cost: $16-$20
  • Open: Tours Fri. and Sat. at 10 and 2
